10 Best Christmas Adverts

One of the many great parts of the festive period is the brilliant Christmas adverts on TV. So many companies invest a lot of time, creativity and money into these adverts and they're such a highlight of the time of year. From those that make you cry to those that warm your heart, here's some of the best ones compiled:

10. 'This isn't just' - Marks & Spencer - 2006

We all remember this one as it's become so iconic. So simple but so effective. Seductive voices and slow motion shots of food makes me want to rush out and buy everything instantly: well played, M&S.

9. 'Christmas with love from Mrs Claus' - Marks & Spencer - 2016

I really love the thought behind this one - Mr Claus gets the attention every year so it's nice to see his female counterpart getting some attention, too. You go Mrs Claus!

8. 'Mistletoe' - Yellow Pages - 1992

Short and sweet (no pun intended) but this advert ran year after year for what seems like my entire childhood and it takes me back instantly. It's also lovely to see an advert made before the internet takeover where we still needed things like a directory book. Simpler times...

7. 'John Lewis, The Man' - Twitter - 2018

We all know that John Lewis have been killing the Christmas advert game for the past few years and so it's really funny to see that referenced here by Twitter. Actual man John Lewis accidentally gets tweeted around Christmas after being mistaken for the store. My favourite touch is the emotional singer with the guitar - a nod to the emotional music staple of JL adverts.

6. 'A Perfect Aussie Christmas' - Aldi Australia - 2016

This really cracked me up. Us Brits and Americans are baffled by the relaxed barbecue-on-the-beach style Christmas that Australians have - so it's a really funny advert as it feels so relatable. This just goes to show that all Christmases are amazing (if a little bizarre).

5. 'Man on the Moon' - John Lewis - 2015

And so begins the John Lewis list takeover. They really know how to tug at the heartstrings and this one is no exception. A young girl spots a lonely man on the moon and decides to reach out. I'm not crying, YOU'RE crying.

4. 'The Long Wait' - John Lewis - 2011

I love the sentiment behind this one as giving gifts is so much better than receiving them. A really sweet idea and what Christmas is all about.

3. 'The Greatest Gift' - Sainsburys - 2016

This brilliant advert has it all - a James Corden soundtrack, animation, a catchy song, a funny idea... and a lot of relatable Christmas situations such as trains breaking down, stores being busy and not having enough time to do it all. Well done, Sainsburys.

2. 'The Bear and the Hare' - John Lewis - 2013

Probably the most iconic of the John Lewis Christmas ads, this one gets me every time. Adorable animated animals, my favourite of the soundtracks (Lily Allen - Somewhere Only We Know cover) and a story that tugs at the heartstrings. Really well done.

1. 'Buster the Boxer' - John Lewis - 2016

It was a tough call between this and number 2 but this one makes me emotional and also makes me laugh, so it's got it all. A brilliant way to translate such a simple end caption 'Gifts that everyone will love'. John Lewis knows that we are a nation of dog lovers so really well played, all I want is to hop on that trampoline with Buster the Boxer!

Thanks for reading - if I've missed off any great ads (past or present) then feel free to suggest some (if I have any tears left in my body after watching all of these!)
